Seven-Day Wine Vacation Itinerary
2023 Season Program – Small-Group Tour (Up to 6 guests)
Day 1: Arrival In Bordeaux
Start your memorable vacation by meeting your guide and being taken to your five-star accommodations in the historic city center. Get comfortable before heading out on a private Sightseeing Tour and Wine Tasting Course, complete with French cheeses and charcuteries.
Day 2: Experience the Médoc
Take a day trip up the Routes des Châteaux to the world-renowned Médoc Region. Visit several prestigious estates and world-class wines in Margaux & Saint Julien. Enjoy a gourmet lunch in a local bistro with regional wine pairing. See first-hand the winemaking techniques of a Second Classified Growth château and enjoy the finesse and elegance of its wines. Finish the day with a quick tour of a local chocolate maker that creates unique treats inspired by the many surrounding vineyards.
Day 3: Discover Pessac, Graves, & Sauternes
Ride south of the city to the Pessac, Sauternes, and Graves appellations with your local guide. Experience a unique wine tasting in the cellar bottle rooms of a famous château that was named after a previous owner, Pope Clement V. Head further south to an impressive estate in Pessac-Léognan for a private tour of the grounds. Enjoy a five-star gourmet lunch at the picturesque restaurant of another Premier Grand Cru Classé in Sauternes and see why the production of sweet wines is so special. For the last tour of the day, your guide will accompany you on a special visit and tasting at a historic, Superior First Growth 1855 that quite literally stands in a league of its own.
Day 5: Take In Beautiful Bordeaux
Take the day to yourself to explore beautiful Bordeaux. Get recommendations and reservations from your local guide on the many museums, shopping, touring, and fine-dining options in this world-class European city center.
Meet the group for a Michelin-Star Dinner in one of the city’s best restaurants.
Day 4: Right Bank Ride to Fronsac & Pomerol
Ride through the Entre-Deux-Mers appellation to Pomerol and Lalande-de-Pomerol. Tour a magnificent winery and defensive fortress in Fronsac, overlooking the Dordogne valley, and its immense barrel cellar with secret passageways. For lunch, enjoy French delicacies and local treats in a picturesque setting overlooking the vineyards. After lunch, get a first-hand look at how a small team of passionate wine professionals is pushing the envelope of innovation at a family-run winery. Followed by a Pomerol tasting in a top-level red wine producer in a grandiose château property.
Day 6: Explore the village of St-Émilion
A day that you’ll never forget, exploring the historic wine village of Saint-Émilion. Tour a breathtaking 600-year-old convent that has survived untouched for seven centuries, and enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the most popular restaurants in the area, owned and operated by a Michelin-Star chef. Taste the difference in Saint-Émilion wines with a horizontal wine tasting of local blends and special vintages. Finish your day with a unique tour and tasting at a world-famous château that sits on an estate dating back to the Roman era.
Day 7: Five-Star Dinner and River Cruise
Take your last day to enjoy beautiful Bordeaux. Stroll down the banks of the Garonne and pick up any last-minute souvenirs. Meet your guide in the evening to embark on a private River Boat Cruise Aperitif before your farewell dinner at a Five-Star restaurant with breathtaking panoramic views of Bordeaux.
Day 8: Departure
After breakfast and checking out this morning, you will be met at your hotel by your guide and transferred to Bordeaux International Airport to catch your departing flight or the Saint-Jean Train Station to get on your train.
What to expect on a typical day trip excursion:
Bordeaux Wine Vacation Day Trips start by picking you up from your hotel in a first-class touring van and driving through a sea of vineyards to the wine region of the day. You’ll visit 2 to 3 different wine-producing estates with tasting and tours of each property, enjoy a five-star gourmet meal that’s typically French, and pair the experience by tasting a comparative selection of fine wines from the region. At the end of the day, your guide will shuttle you back to your hotel and give recommendations or reservations for evening activities in Bordeaux.
Examples of Château we visit:
Château Pape Clément, Château Beychevelle, Château Léoville Poyferré, Château Smith Haut Lafitte, Château de la Riviere, Château La Mission Haut Brion, Château Haut Bailly, Château Valandraud, Château Saint-Georges, Château Guiraud, Château D’Yquem, etc.
Château tours last between 1 and 2 hours, often including a presentation of the vineyard, the history of the château, and a guided tour of the vat room and cellars ending with a vintage tasting of the wine(s) Mis En Boutille Au Château.
Each Day Trip Includes:
Day trips are guided by Andrew and Daniel (your personal Bordeaux-based, native English-speaking tour guides) and include a first-class shuttle to and from your hotel, all estate visit fees, a five-star French gourmet cuisine lunch, and many delicious wine tastings adapted to the region of the day. For example, if you’re visiting the Médoc, you’ll enjoy and compare several different vintages and styles of Médoc wines like Margaux, St-Éstephe, St-Julien, etc.
