Talk to a Bordelais

We are not a travel agency with a large team and distant staff members. We are simply down-to-earth American and British ex-pats who want to roll out the red carpet for you in Bordeaux.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the typical questions that we get about Bordeaux and traveling to France.

Do I need the COVID vaccine to travel to France?

Since 14 March 2022, the “vaccine pass” has been lifted in France in all areas where it was previously required (cultural and leisure venues, commercial catering, professional trade shows, etc.). Similarly, the COVID certificate is no longer required as of 1 August 2022.

What's the best way to get to Bordeaux?

The fastest and easiest way to get to Bordeaux is to fly. The Bordeaux-Merignac International Airport (BOD) receives direct national and international flights. Most national flights only take a bit more than an hour. Alternatively, if you’re already traveling in France, the high-speed train system (SNCF) is a great way to travel.

Do I need to speak French?

The short answer is no, you don’t need to speak French to have a great time in Bordeaux. Of course, the customary “Bonjour” and “Merci” go a long way, but you do not need to worry about being able to communicate in English. Andrew and Daniel are native English speakers, and the various châteaux guides and hosts are all perfectly capable of touring in English (with a very charming French accent!)

When is the best time to visit Bordeaux?

Like most major cities, Bordeaux always has something fun going on and is open to tourism year-round. Andrew would say that Spring and Summer are his favorite months to visit Châteaux and stroll around town, while Daniel prefers exploring the vineyards and medieval villages in the Fall. It really boils down to personal preference.

What is a typical day trip like?

Your guide will pick up guests from your Hotel around 9am for a 30min drive to the wine region of the day and the first Château visit. After the morning visit and wine tasting, you’ll enjoy a gourmet lunch paired with different wines typical of the region. After lunch, we continue to the next set of Château visits and tastings, before driving back to the hotel at around 5pm. Each day trip focuses on one specific wine region and what makes it special.

What does 6 people per trip mean?

6 people per tour means that we’ll have no more than 6 total guests on any given trip (not including Daniel and Andrew). It’s important to us that each of our guests feels like they are getting the attention that they deserve, and rightly so. Therefore, we prefer to keep our tours small so that they are a personable and private experience for everyone.
